This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, whom we share it with, and your choices. By using Food Scan AI (the “App”), you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.


1) Quick Summary

  • No account required.
  • No in-app third-party ads and no AdMob/SDK ads. We may run external campaigns (e.g., Google Ads) to promote the app, but there is no in-app ad tracking.
  • Photos you choose to analyze are sent securely to our AI provider only to generate your result, then we don’t keep them.
  • Analytics & crashes: We use Firebase Analytics (aggregated/app-instance metrics) and Firebase Crashlytics(crash logs) to improve the app.
  • You can delete your entries in the app and contact us for additional requests.

2) What We Collect

A) Content You Choose to Provide

  • Food Photos/Videos. If you capture or import images for analysis (food detection, portion estimates, nutrition).
    • Processing: Images are transmitted via HTTPS to our AI inference provider (OpenAI API) solely to generate results for you. We do not store your images on our servers after analysis completes.
  • Manual Entries. Titles, calories, macros (text/numeric) that you add. Stored locally on your device and/or in the app database so we can show your history.

B) Automatically Collected (Operations & Quality)

  • Usage Analytics (Firebase Analytics). Aggregated/app-instance events about feature usage (e.g., screen views, button taps, session counts), device/OS info (model, OS version), locale, and performance signals. We do not use analytics for ad targeting.
  • Diagnostics (Firebase Crashlytics). Crash logs and performance data (e.g., stack traces, device/OS at crash time) to help us find and fix bugs.
  • Identifiers. Firebase may create an app-instance identifier for analytics and crash correlation. We do not use Apple’s IDFA, and we do not perform cross-app tracking.

C) Optional Contact

  • Support Emails. If you email us, we receive your email address and message content to assist you.

We do not intentionally collect

  • Precise GPS location, contacts, calendars, or HealthKit records.
  • Government IDs or payment card numbers (any purchases, if offered, are processed by Apple; we never see card data).
  • Advertising identifiers for cross-app tracking (no ATT tracking).

3) How We Use Data

  • Core functionality: Analyze your photos and display results; save and show your entries/history.
  • Product improvement: Understand feature usage in aggregate, measure performance, and resolve crashes.
  • Support: Respond to your requests.

We do not use your data for third-party advertising. We may run external ad campaigns to attract users to the App, but no advertising SDK is embedded in the App and there is no in-app ad tracking.


4) Sharing & Disclosure

We do not sell personal information and do not share data with data brokers. We share data only with service providers that operate the App for us:

  • OpenAI (Image Analysis). Receives the image you submit to return analysis results. As described in OpenAI’s API data usage policy, API data is not used to train models by default.
  • Google Firebase (Analytics & Crashlytics). Provides aggregated usage analytics and crash diagnostics.

These processors act on our instructions and implement security measures under their terms.


5) Legal Bases (EEA/UK only)

Where GDPR/UK GDPR applies, we process:

  • Contract/Service necessity: To provide the App’s features you request (photo analysis, history).
  • Legitimate interests: Improve the App (analytics, debugging), prevent abuse, and support users.
  • Consent: Where your platform settings treat certain analytics as consent-based; you can withdraw via OS settings.

6) International Transfers

We and our processors may process data in countries outside your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses).


7) Retention

  • Photos sent for analysis: Kept only as long as needed to deliver the result; we do not store them after analysis completes.
  • Entries/History: Kept until you delete them (see §9).
  • Analytics/Diagnostics: Retained per provider defaults (generally months, then aggregated or deleted).

8) Security

We use industry-standard measures such as HTTPS/TLS in transit and limit access to data to personnel and processors who need it to operate or improve the App. No system is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.


9) Your Choices & Controls

  • Photos & Camera: You can revoke camera or photo library access in iOS Settings.
  • Delete entries: You can delete items from within the App; contact us if you want app-side data erased.
  • Analytics/Crash reporting: You can limit certain analytics in device settings (e.g., iOS analytics & diagnostics). You may also contact us to request opt-out where feasible.
  • Emails: You can choose not to email us; if you do, you may request deletion of your messages.

10) Your Rights (Where Applicable)

Depending on your location (e.g., EU/EEA/UK, certain U.S. states), you may have rights to accesscorrectdeleteport, or object/restrict processing.

  • EU/UK: You may lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.
  • California (CPRA): We do not “sell” or “share” personal information as defined by CPRA. You have rights to know, delete, correct, and not be discriminated against for exercising rights.

11) Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child provided personal data, contact us and we will delete it.


12) Permissions & Platform Policies

  • Camera / Photos: Required for capturing/importing images for analysis (optional but necessary for those features).
  • Network: Required to transmit images to the AI provider and receive results.
    The App is not a medical device and does not provide medical or dietetic advice.

13) Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy. If changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify you (e.g., in-app notice). The updated Policy is effective when posted. Your continued use of the App means you accept the changes.
